AUSTRALIAN VISA INCOME THRESHOLDS UPDATED FROM 1 JULY 2026
From 1 July 2026, the minimum salary requirements for key employer-sponsored visas will increase, impacting both employers and visa applicants across Australia.
These changes are particularly relevant for businesses sponsoring overseas workers under the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa and the Subclass 186 Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa.
What is Changing?
The Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) and Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) will increase in line with annual indexation requirements.
These thresholds determine the minimum salary that must be offered to sponsored employees and are a critical part of ensuring compliance with Australian immigration laws.
Updated Income Thresholds for 2026-27
From 1 July 2026, the new thresholds will be:
• Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT): $79,499 (up from $76,515)
• Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT): $146,717 (up from $141,210)
These updated figures will apply to all Subclass 482 and Subclass 186 visa applications lodged on or after this date.
Why Do These Changes Happen Each Year?
The CSIT and SSIT are automatically indexed each year under Regulation 5.42A of the Migration Regulations, based on Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Importantly, this means:
• The increases happen annually
• No new legislation is required
• Employers must stay proactive to remain compliant
