Temporary Skilled Visas – what are they?

KU Legal - Skilled Migration - Help Wanted ???

The Department of Home Affairs (“DoHA”) is prioritising processing of key offshore caseloads, including temporary skilled visas (read more here).

This is good news for Employers who are looking at bringing temporary skilled workers to Australia, where they can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.

The Temporary Skill Shortage Visa, known as subclass 482, has three streams:

  • Short Term stream – for occupations on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (“STSOL”)
  • Medium Term stream – for occupations on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (“MLTSSL”) or Regional Occupation List (“ROL”)
  • Labour Agreement stream – where the employer has a labour agreement with the Australian government in effect

Occupations on the DoHA Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (“PMSOL”) are also being given priority processing to help fill critical skills needed to support Australia’s economic recovery from COVID-19.
